Nigerians are divided over over Senator Tinubu and Elisha Abbo's clash during his disciplinary hearing

Nigerians are divided over over Senator Tinubu and Elisha Abbo

At the first sitting of the committee on Monday July 9th, Senator Elisha Abbo clashed with Senator Oluremi Tinubu when he appeared before the Senate ad-hoc committee investigating his assault on a nursing mother inside a sex toy shop in Abuja on May 11th.

Upon his arrival at the senate room where he was to be questioned, 41-year-old Abbo refused to swear an oath and also refused to speak in the presence of journalists. According to him, the matter is in court and anything he says in front of the press, can be used against him.

Apparently angered by his stance, Tinubu said
“Distinguished, you just joined us. We have a procedure and we are also under law. You don’t come in here and dictate to us what should be done,” Mrs Tinubu told Abbo, a Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) member. You are on the other side now. You don’t tell us what to do…because we can suspend you,” she added.

Replying in anger, Abbo said
“I will not sit here and listen to you threaten me with suspension. I am a senator like you. You cannot threaten me with suspension.”

Now, Nigerians are divided on the issue. While many believe Oluremi Tinubu was 'arrogant' and didn't speak with 'respect', other are in total support of her modus operandi.

Watch the video ans see all the reactions below...

Remi Tinubu is as arogant as her husband. You aren't any step higher than Sen. Elisha Abbo. You have no superiority to threaten a fellow senator with suspension. She was even asking them to off the Mike
They are those who think they single-handedly own this nation.

Senator Abbo is obviously a compulsively violent bully, but his infantilization by Remi Tinubu is intolerably insulting & unacceptable. Like Abbo, Remi was also 41 years old when she first became a senator in 2011. Did anyone denigrate her age in 2011? When did 41 become "young"?

Remi Tinubu is being called arrogant and condescending.

Do we realise it was a disciplinary committee not an owambe??

Something is worrying Nigerians,Elisha Abbo slapped a woman ON CAMERA and people are mad because Remi Tinubu didn’t talk to him with “respect”. She has every right to talk to him the way she did;it’s a DISCIPLINARY hearing and he disrespected every senator through his actions.

Sen.Remi Tinubu in action. Shamelessly assaulting a colleague. How different is she from Sen.Elisha Ishaku Abbo? She is morally dirty to be a member of the c’ttee investigating the freshman senator from Adamawa.

Last week senator Elisha Abbo beat up and humiliated a woman and all of you were outraged but today I'm seeing people defending the same man because Senator Remi Tinubu was scolding him for that same act.

You people are soo inconsistent, the bashing of Mrs. Tinubu is not right.

When Senator Remi Tinubu mentioned to a senator seated beside her that Abbo’s misdemeanor could be as a result of his age, I just hissed. That was a manifestation of what the political establishment think of us, younger people - as youthfully exuberant. That was not necessary.

I’ve watched a longer video of the exchange between Remi Tinubu and Elisha Abbo. I get that Abbo is “underserving” of respect and has anger problem, but Senator Tinubu was unnecessarily condescending. At a point she sounded as though she’s addressing a school kid, not colleague.

There are two senators involved in a slap scandal:
One slapped a nursing mother
The other slapped the whole nation.

One is threatened by Remi Tinubu &co with suspension.
The other was promoted To DeputySenate Pres.🤔

That’s what she meant by “do you want us to defend you?”😏

Remi Tinubu is a clear example of someone who through her husband's influence and manipulations got fixed into a revered office without being oriented. It's a pity a good number of our legislators don't know what the constitution provides.

For those who have seen the Remi Tinubu and Elisha Abbo video, are you not worried that she said they can protect him?

"22nd July they said right? It's about time I start lashing this idiot bcos my silence has made him feel superior. God pass man! Have held it in for so long now, Mr cliff ishaku, you know what I'm capable of & have known that I'm your greatest fear. Today you pleaded not guilty, that shows you still don't have the fear of God in you till date. I've been your greatest nightmare & trust me, my silence wasn't a sign of weakness. It was just me leaving it all to God Almighty & as His ways are not ours, years after the untime God who is never late showed up to expose your true identity to not only Nigerians but the entire world. Cliff, I will lash the truth about you & you know I don't rant. The truth will eventually come to light bcos you are & have always been an animal in human skin."

'I’m not a rubber stamp, we’ll challenge Buhari’s government' - Senate President, Ahmed Lawan

Senate President Ahmad Lawan has said he will not be a “rubber stamp” to the executive.

Mohammed Isa, a media aide to Lawan, quoted the senate president as saying this when he received Women Parliamentarians, a group led by Joy Emordi, former senator representing Anambra north.

Lawan said it is “laughable” that he is being referred to as “rubber stamp”, vowing that the senate under him would challenge the government of President Muhammadu Buhari but “in a decent manner. There is no time that I will ever be a rubber stamp,” he said.
“Yes, I believe in President Buhari as a person and I believe in my party, the APC, but I believe that our problems as Nigerians are Nigerian problems. They are neither APC nor PDP problems, they are Nigerian problems that require Nigerian solution. So, we have to work together.
“We will be there for the executive arm of government all the time in moving this country forward. We are going to challenge the executive in a manner that is decent but decisive. As a minister, you have to do your ministerial job well. We will make government appointees to do what is required of them. We have to deal with the issues confronting us. It is not going to be easy, but we have to build a relationship that have mutual respect, collaboration and partnership. It is achievable.”
The senate president urged the women to be more involved in politics, saying: “the political space in the country is wide enough to accommodate our women.”  On her part, Emordi urged Lawan and his colleagues to work for the good of Nigerians.

Breaking: Suspected herdsmen kill daughter of Afenifere chairman, Pa Reuben Fasoranti

Yoruba socio-cultural organisation, Afenifere, says it has received information that Mrs. Funke Olakunrin, daughter of Afenifere chairman, Pa Reuben Fasoranti, has been killed by persons suspected to be herdsmen.

The spokesman for Afenifere, Yinka Odumakin, said the 58-year-old woman was heading to Ore Junction from Akure, Ondo State, when she was attacked and shot by the 'herdsmen'.
He said, “We have confirmed the death of Mrs. Funke Olakunrin (58), daughter of our leader, Chief Fasoranti. Eyewitness accounts say she died of gunshots from Fulani herdsmen who shot her at Ore junction in Ondo State earlier today.
“She was coming from Akure when the armed Fulani herdsmen came from the bush to attack her and other vehicles. Her domestic staff in the car with her also sustained gunshots. This is one death too many and a clear we-can-take-it-no-more death.”

Olufunke is the second child of 94-year-old Fasoranti to die. The elder statesman had also lost a daughter, Bunmi, some years ago.

Roger Federer defeats Rafael Nadal in four sets to reach his 12th Wimbledon final

Roger Federer defeats Rafael Nadal in four sets to reach his 12th Wimbledon final

This evening, Roger Federer defeated Rafael Nadal, 7-6 (3), 1-6, 6-3, 6-4, to reach his 12th Wimbledon final.

He will face Novak Djokovic, the top seed and defending champion, in the final on Sunday. Federer, 37, has won eight Wimbledon singles titles. If he wins on Sunday, he will tie Martina Navratilova’s open era record of nine.
"I'm exhausted. It was tough at the end Rafa played some unbelievable shots to stay in the match. I had spells where I was serving very well and probably the biggest points in the match went my way. That first set was huge, to get the lead and try to protect it. It was a joy to play" Federer told BBC Sport.

Defending champion Djokovic, 32, goes for his 16th Grand Slam triumph after beating Spain's 23rd seed Roberto Bautista Agut in four sets earlier on Friday.
