An Osogbo Chief Magistrates Court in Osun on Tuesday remanded a 32-year-old man, Adedokun Kayode, in Ilesa prison for alleged theft of N130,000.
Kayode, who is facing a two-count charge of theft brought against him, pleaded not guilty to the charges.
The Magistrate, Mrs Mary Awodele, had ordered the defendant to be kept behind bars due to the magnitude of the alleged offence committed.
The Prosecutor, ASP Fagboyinbo Abiodun, told the court that the defendant committed the offence some time in December 2018, at Agunbelewo, Osogbo.
Abiodun said the defendant with intent to steal, claimed to be a NEPA official and collected the sum of N130,000 from one Sunday Clement, by converting the money to his personal use and failed to give him the Electricity Meter, which he paid for.
He said the defendant was later arrested after several efforts were made to retrieve the money from him when he failed to produce the Meter .
The Prosecutor said the offence committed contravened sections 419 and 390(9) of the criminal code cap 34 vol. 11, laws of Osun 2003.
The Defendant pleaded not guilty to the two-count charge against him.
The Defence Counsel, Mr Najite Okobie, prayed the court to grant his client bail in the most liberal terms.
The Magistrate, Mrs Mary Awodele, however, overruled the bail application and ordered for a formal bail application on the next date of adjournment on July 2, for its ruling.
